Cuckmere Haven 9/7/16

The first signs of autumn today with a good selection of species on offer, though most flew straight through heading out to sea.

Despite the disturbance down the Cuckmere, the breeding birds have had a successful season. Most notable today were finding three nearly fully grown Oystercatcher chicks on the scrape. Two pairs of Shelduck have raised 10 youngsters and the pair of Stonechats have raised a second brood.

Little Ringed Plover - 3
Green Sandpiper - 1
Black-tailed Godwit - 12 one flock flew south out to sea
Dunlin - 1
Whimbrel - 2
Sand Martin - 8
Raven - 8 a single party circling
